meteorshowr:

Today last year is the day that Osama died. The US celebrated his death. As Christians let us remember that we are to love our enemies and pray for them. Let’s also remember that God loves EVERYONE and desires that none should perish but that ALL would come to repentance and that He does not delight in the death of the wicked.

I’m a day late and a dollar short on this one, but I clearly remember the sick feeling I had last year when I saw the news and all the ugliness of my fellow Christians on Facebook.  Heartbreaking.

I certainly remember, I was sitting next to you in Burger King. And it still sickens me.

Sigh No More: OF COURSE so many people leave the church after high school. We hear about it all the time. -

matthewclan:

asfierceaslions:

OF COURSE so many people leave the church after high school. We hear about it all the time.

I mean, why should they stay?

Church isn’t FUN any more after that point.

Church isn’t designed to entertain any more.

It’s time for grown up church.

No more pizza parties or iPod giveaways.

This is the sort of church environment we’ve created.

Most kids are only in the church for entertainment, socialization, and free food. That’s it. They keep coming back because they know that’s what they’ll get. Those are the kind of people that these shallow, cheap gimmicks draw in. Then, after the draw has worn out, they’re gone. It’s that simple.

A media driven church is only going to bring in media driven kids, and they go no further after that.

I’m not sure how to make it any more clear that THAT particular model DOES NOT WORK. It just doesn’t. Relying on anything other than the love of God to draw people in is not going to work. Don’t be enchanted or fooled by it. Seriously.

Amen, and amen.

Yet, what does that say about someone like me, who doesn’t necessarily go to church out of what might be called a “sense of worship,” but for the community, the music opportunities, etc.?

'Tis a Scary Place: queer canon -

zumie-monster:

There’s something really screwed up about the way we talk about queer representation in children’s media.

In the U.S. culture at least, there’s this instantaneous association of queer people with sex. Queer people are automatically highly sexual individuals—ergo, not…

All of this. Read this, and internalize it.

Ryan's Dirty Trailer: Missouri's getting its own 'Don't Say Gay' bill - FiredUpMissouri -

cognitivedissonance:

blogvader:

To say that I’m profoundly disappointed would be a pretty severe understatement. This bill, and others like it, are an outrage, and I wish we had legislators in Missouri who had higher priorities than exploiting their positions to marginalize and insult the LGBT community.

What really worries me…

Oh for fuck’s sake…

Sometimes I wonder why I don’t leave this state…

Billionaire Romney Backer: The Ultrawealthy Have An ‘Insufficient Influence’ Over Politics -

cognitivedissonance:

Are you fucking kidding me? Because I’m sure that’s exactly the problem.

Just for Ken Griffin and Mitt Romney, it’s “Save the Rich” by Garfunkel and Oates:

Lyrics here.

So, instead of communism, he wants oligarchy. Someone save me from HIM.
